    Hello,
sorry for the topic in English, but my German is very bad.

I hope you can help me with this problem.
    I have an A140 (W168) Elegance from 1998 with 130000 km
For some time up to now, every now and then, the hazard lights will flash. This happens while driving or even with the car stopped and idle.
The car has no alarm fitted.

I've found that if I unplugg fuse 30 or fuse 28, the failure will disappear. However after some days or hours, the hazard lights will start to flash again.

With a fault code reader we found error B1101.
After some research I found it is related with the control module for RFL and DAS.

Do you have some wiring schematics for this circuit.
Can you give some hints on how to narrow down a bit the chances that the failure is related with a faulty module?

    Many thanks!

First of all you should check the cable to the waning light switch. Maybe you've somewhere a blank wire due a short circuit or broken cable.

It's the green/white, thin (0.35mm²) cable on pin 13 of the left (seen from drivers seat) cable/connector at the rear of the instruments (tachometer). Connected to ground, the warning lights will start flashing.

    Greetings, Mirko

    ok, I'll do that

When the failure happens I notice that the switch on the console does not blink, only the arrows on the instrument cluster.

If i press the switch on the console, then everything will blink synchronized!

that's ok so, it seems to be a short circuit of that cable to ground

the lamp inside the switch is only connected to the warning light output when the switch is pushed

otherwise the lamp is connected to the ignition power contact (via a resistor to reduce the brightness)

Is there a wire connecting the FFB control module to the instrument cluster.

How does the control module tells the instrument cluster to blink the warning lights when we open or close doors via the remote?

the FFB module sends a coded signal to the instrument cluster

the IC then activates the warning lights and sends the signal to the locking/unlocking pump

if you push the button in the dashboard (doors) the IC sends a coded signal to the pump to get the doors locked/unlocked .... depending on the signal sent before (the opposite)

if the functionality is activated, the IC sends the closing signal to the pump, when speed exceeds 15km/h

Considering what you say it's unlikely that the failure is caused by a faulty FFB control module like Wuppertaler says! (part number 1688200426)

if the output of the FFB module is faulty, a close-signal may be generated

it is a 2 bit code with 1 start bit

the sequence to close the doors is 1 start bit (low) 2 data bits (low)
    and this repeated 4 times (bit-time is 15 milli-seconds)

so the complete sequence for closing is a low-impulse of 180 ms ..... this might also come from a short-circuit to ground of the signal cable FFB-IC

it is the 0,35mm² green wire (the connector at the RIGHT hand side when sitting at the driver's seat)

    I see ;)
if it generates a close signal, then the doors would also lock ;)

but that is not the case.

If I drive with door lock open, it will not close if the warning lights are blinking crazy!

If you don't mind, you could just cut off the warning lights wire close to the instrument board for a test. Of course you'll loose then the warning light function in emergencies. But if the problem is solved by cutting the wire (you could always re-solder and insulate it afterwards), you'll know where to look for the short circuit.

    @cooper
You mean the green and white wire on pin 13, right?

    Today it really went mad.
after more than one month, the warning lights were flashing non-stop.

I decided to take the risk and cut the green/white wire, but it continued to blink :(

Now I have a broken wire and christmas warning lights...

    Any advice?

Re-solder the wire, check your bank account and prepare to buy a new instrument cluster...

It's the only part left as cause.

Do you have an idea on the cost of the instrument cluster?

Is it possible to buy from ebay or do I have to get it fitted from a Mercedes dealer.

    Thanks

You have to take care about the diesel or gas version (range of rpm).
If it fits to your car, you can use every type of instrument cluster, there are only minor differences like the colour of the display ground or the use of LED instead of lamps .... but they all will work in your car.

Also the central lock functionality can be different (with or without radio remote control) .... but this can be programmed by your dealer.

    it's called

"Kombiinstrument" (or "Tacho" or "Tachometer" .... would be speedometer in English)

you can use every instrument cluster you like (if the range of rpm fits)

There are a number of instrument clusters in Ebay actually, the price is 90 to 200 Euros ..... what do you need .... diesel or gas?
